I undertook my training at The Northern Guild in Newcastle-upon-Tyne gaining a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, a Postgraduate Diploma and a Diploma in Psychotherapy, and an MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy. I am also an EMDR Europe Accredited Consultant in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) Therapy, and one of the few practising in Cumbria and the Borders. I also have a Diploma in Counselling Supervision.
My private practice started in 2016 and I have seen and continue to see clients presenting with a wide range of issues. I offer a warm and non-judgemental environment and my aim is to provide you with a safe and supportive space to explore difficulties and problems. My belief is that people have the capacity to change but at times may need assistance to achieve this.
My approach is straight-forward and effective, where I draw from a wide range of psychotherapeutic methods. I can offer both short and long term therapy.
Mind and body connection is a fundamental in my work, this has developed extensively through my role within a rehabilitation centre working with members of the Fire and Rescue Service Community. I have had the pleasure of working at The Fire Fighters Charity for 8 years and worked with a wide and diverse range of psychological presentations. I played a key part in the development of the service and represented the organisation with presentations at conferences, the Emergency Services Show in the NEC, and was also interviewed by Radio 5 on the impact of mental health on Firefighters. Clients here also included Prison Officers and Paramedics.
Rehabilitation programmes in this setting were up to a week in duration. I have extensive experience in using short-term focused approaches with clients, in addition to working longer term for more complex difficulties. The initial sessions will enable us to identify areas to work with and through assessment, a treatment plan will be formulated.
In recent years, I have developed my skills and I have undertaken advanced training in therapeutic approaches to trauma-related difficulties, including PTSD.
I am engaged in continuous professional development (CPD) activities, which includes supervision and advanced learning.
I am registered with the UK Council for Psychotherapy and The EMDR Association UK and I hold indemnity insurance with Howden.
